The Old Barn
Directions from Lampeter
From Lampeter, take the A482 in the Aberaeron direction. After about 4 miles turn right onto the B4337 for Llanrhystud. After 7 or 8 miles you will reach a pub called Rhos yr Hafod, Free House on your right. It is also marked as Cross Inn. There is a five pointed crossroads here and you need the turning to the right which is immediately after the pub. Your turning is marked ‘Tregaron (A485)’ and ‘Penuwch B4577’.
Stay on this road for 2 miles, then at Bethania, just after the 30mph sign, turn left for Llangwyryfon on the B4576. Keep to the B4576 for Llangwyryfon for 4 miles. After this you will go steeply downhill. The road turns sharply to the right and there is a sign showing Llanrhystud to the left and Llangwyryfon to the right. Turn left here, then immediately right, going downhill on a narrow lane. After a few 100 yards you will reach a farm. Skirt round the right hand side of it. After a few hundred more yards you will reach the bottom of the hill. Pass Goitre Farmhouse on your left, drive up a short steep hill and The Old Barn car park is the second of two gated entrances on your left.
From Aberystwyth avoiding single track
This route avoids most, but not all, of the single track roads.
At the Morrisons/MacDonalds roundabout take the A487 south to Cardigan. Take the first left at the next roundabout. After 2.1 miles take a left turn onto the A485 signed for Tregaron. After 3.5 miles turn right at Abermad onto the B4576. You will see Glanmad Holiday Cottage on the corner. After 7.5 miles you will reach a village called Llangwyryfon. Drive straight through the village. After 9 miles you will reach a crossroads. There is a house called Gwyfor on your left. Turn right here onto the smallest of the roads which is a rather bumpy downhill track. After 9.3 miles you will reach a farm. Skirt round the right hand edge of the farmyard. After a few hundred more yards you will reach the bottom of the hill. Pass Goitre Farmhouse on your left, drive up a short steep hill and The Old Barn car park is the second of two gated entrances on your left.
